Orbex are looking for Additive Manufacturing Technician (3D Printing Operator) to join our cutting-edge manufacturing team. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) systems, particularly Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) machines, to produce highly precise, space-grade components such as rocket engines.

This is a rare opportunity to work in a fast-paced, pioneering environment, where your work will literally help launch missions into space. 

The Position 

Key responsibilities of the role 
  • Set up, operate, and maintain metal additive manufacturing machines (L-PBF) and periphery systems such as de-powdering stations (e.g., Solukon) and wire EDM.
  • Prepare process chambers, launch builds, monitor print status, and track consumable levels throughout operations.
  • Perform build extraction, de-powdering, and post-processing tasks, including support and build plate removal.
  • Follow work orders, specifications, blueprints, and test instructions to ensure precision and adherence to standards.
  • Use ERP and MES systems to complete production orders and record operational data (e.g., material consumption, build completion, machine performance).
  • Conduct measurements and inspections using appropriate metrology tools and software, reporting results accurately.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and assist in identifying and resolving equipment issues.
  • Work in compliance with all Quality Management Systems (QA/QC), ensuring adherence to aerospace-grade standards.
  • Collaborate within a team-oriented, dynamic environment, supporting activities in process improvements and production efficiency, as well as support other manufacturing areas as required.

Essential Qualifications and Experience 
  • Comfortable operating maintaining, and troubleshooting metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines, ideally for L-PBF (minimum 1-2 years). 
  • Experience using ERP and MES systems in a production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Hands-on experience with shop tools, hand tools, and measurement instruments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable experience and traits: 
  • Experience with precision-printed parts for space or aerospace applications, particularly in high-performance metals.
  • Background in CNC machining or other advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of metrology, QA/QC procedures, and quality documentation.
  • Familiarity with EOS and AMCM machines or similar AM platforms.
